We've moved!

In 2010 we join forces with Sydney’s 505 in the establishment of a new dedicated live music venue in the heart of Surry Hills. This exciting new venue will be a base for a number of small music organisations and we are thrilled to be amongst it all + there will be a piano!

So from the 19th January you can find
us at 505 – corner Perry and Cleveland Streets Surry Hills. Spread the word!

We send out a big heart felt thanks
to Mark and The Excelsior Hotel for all their support over the past years and
their dedication to live music in Sydney.
Our weekly series happens at Venue 505 cnr Cleveland and Perry Streets, Surry Hills.

John Hibbard, trombonist and composer, was born on the Central Coast of NSW in 1980. He studied jazz at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, in 2001 representing the institution at the International Association of Jazz Schools conference in Boston USA. Since graduating in 2002, John has worked in a wide range of musical genres, including the whimsical pop of King Curly, the frenetic lounge metal of Michael Lira’s Darth Vegas and the filmic evocations of Julian Curwin’s Tango Saloon. While studying he collaborated with fellow students to form Sidecar, releasing the album Dreams of the Middle Class in early 2005, featuring many of John’s compositions.
He performs regularly with the Jazzgroove Mothership Orchestra, contributing four bombastic compositions so far. John’s arrangement of Everybody Wants to Go to Heaven was featured on the 2006 recording The Mothership Plays the Music of Mike Nock. He has also written and performed for Sam Golding’s Glorious Sousaphonics, recently inducted into the Musica Viva in Schools programme and Martin Kay’s Invisible City, both ensembles of many horns and reckless abandon. John’s peers also keep him busy in eclectic jazz based ensembles like the country jazz of Zoe and the Buttercups and the world flavour of the Jess Green Septet. In 2006 John became part of Wollongong’s Circus Monoxide, touring regional NSW. He has appeared at the Woodford Folk Festival for the last four years, twice with Darth Vegas, in 2005 accompanying the acrobats of Top Chick Management and in 2006 with King Curly. John resides at a vine choked garret in Inner Sydney and frequently wonders where all the dust comes from
