More Info:

Leonie Cohen Trio has been playing together since early 2000. Following the success of their earlier release Jerusalem recorded for ABC’s Jazztrack, the band has released their second album on Jazzgroove Sideshow Pony, also recorded for ABC’s Jazztrack. The album features a beautiful array of Cohen’s original compositions, and some outstanding interpretations of standards.
“What we have here is a recital of Jewish melodies… by a contemporary jazz ensemble of the highest order.….. Cohen plays absolutely beautifully. Superb.”
John Clare - Sydney Morning Herald April 2005
“Cohen’s piano is glorious. Not only is her playing extremely tasteful and sure, her sound is beautiful.”
Greg Levine - Jazz Australia November 2005
“Jerusalem is a fresh approach to jazz that I wholeheartedly recommend, even if your jazz doesn’t extend past Miles Davis’ Kind of Blue. Cohen’s own playing is spacious and lyrical whether soloing or in support. The music is seductive and melodic and the solos are often exquisite.”
Dave Curry - Canberra Times, June 16 2005
Cohen is one of Australia’s foremost jazz pianists and composers. She has performed extensively throughout Australia (Opera House, Angel Place, Spiegel Tent, Adelaide Cabaret Festival, Bennetts Lane, Basement) and overseas (New York, Hong Kong, Singapore, Japan). Cohen has toured Australia with David Campbell, and regularly works with Christa Hughes, Edwina Blush and Tango Saloon. Most recently she was commissioned by the Sydney Opera House to compose music for and perform in the Loose Canon productions of “Monkey Shines” and “Darlingwood Tales”.
