We've moved!

In 2010 we join forces with Sydney’s 505 in the establishment of a new dedicated live music venue in the heart of Surry Hills. This exciting new venue will be a base for a number of small music organisations and we are thrilled to be amongst it all + there will be a piano!

So from the 19th January you can find
us at 505 – corner Perry and Cleveland Streets Surry Hills. Spread the word!

We send out a big heart felt thanks
to Mark and The Excelsior Hotel for all their support over the past years and
their dedication to live music in Sydney.
Our weekly series happens at Venue 505 cnr Cleveland and Perry Streets, Surry Hills.

Elana Stone

A group of friends whose collective talents draw on the rich traditions of soul, jazz and the blues, The Elana Stone Band bring the emotive force of an award –winning talented singer/songwriter to an array of classic styles.
A professional singer since the age of fourteen, Elana Stone has spent the better part of a decade exploring her considerable range.

Her debut album ‘In The Garden of Wild Things’ is another feather in the cap of this gifted young jazz singer/songwriter. “The album is a collection of original songs, all written around the same time but in very different styles. Some of the songs were written as an act of carthasis. Others were inspired by weird dreams or traveling or returning home. Others were simply musical ideas that turned into songs. There are a lot of different influences in the music so calling the album ‘In the Garden of Wild Things’ seemed like a good idea because it’s open to interpretation.” [Elana Stone; Drum Media Interview].

The album features; James Muller on guitar, Sean Wayland on piano, rhodes and organ Brett Hirst on bass and Evan Mannell on drums with special appearances by Aaron Flower on guitar, Zoe Hauptmann on bass, James Hauptmann on atmospheric sounds, Jeremy Borthwick and John Hibbard on trombone and Simon Ferenci on trumpet, Steve Marin on conga and a choir from Newtown High School of the Performing Arts. It was recorded in December 2003 at Sony Studios and mixed by Phil Punch at Electric Avenue Studios and mastered by Rob Gist – also at Electric Avenue Studios. The beautiful artwork was done by designer, Kare Martens.

In a live setting, Elana Stone’s and her band bring a profoundly inclusive energy, warmth and a total lack of self-consciousness to their performances. By turns ecstatic and melancholic, the audience shares Elana and her band’s fortunes throughout the night.
