Stay warm with like-minded Sydney jazz hipsters
Like the Mamas & The Papas sang it, all the leaves are brown, and the sky is grey. Ok, but Sydney is still a stunning town when the sun sets early, and an early sunset means even you early birds are shrouded in darkness entering your favourite Surry Hills place of entertainment. No, not the strip club upstairs.
Leading us down the windy slope to winter are old label favourites Leonie Cohen and Informal Troupe, stage regulars Amphibious and Showa 44 and an exciting new collection of familiar people, Greening From Ear to Ear.
Down at winter base camp, our June lineup sees the return of the ADs Pick; an allstar lineup paying a long-awaited tribute to the music of Roger Frampton, and those ripening chestnuts of Sydney music, Mike Nock and Jeremy Sawkins.

May 2012
President's Message:
The 2012 Jazzgroove AGM will take place 18 May, 3pm Redfern Town Hall, 73 Pitt St. Redfern, 2016. All may attend, however you must be a financial member to vote.
The UN has finally been convinced that jazz contributes to world peace and has created International Jazz Day to bolster appreciation of this many varied and terribly exciting music we love, and love to make.
Jazzgroove will honour IJD by putting on a Tuesday double bill most weeks of the year for fourteen years. Done. What else can we do?
On behalf of all at JG I'd like to farewell and thank our outgoing administrator, general manager, guiding light and chief cheerleader Kerri Glasscock, who has decided to move on this year. Kerri has been instrumental in keeping JG on the rails, from day to day running, to mounting our Summer Fest, to leading vital improvements to our behind the scenes structures.
She has been a great mentor and inspiration to our new admin, Ben Pierpoint, who has worked in a supporting capacity for JG for some time and now takes on the job. I am particularly keen to see what Kerri comes up with now in the theatre, she's not just a talented administrator, Kerri is a great actor too!
Best wishes, and thank you Kerri.

President's Message:
Hi everyone,
What can you do for the music you adore? It's made by real people, so if it matters that they make it for you, it's crucial you're interested in them and the lives they lead. If that music is made overseas, or even in another city, those cats are hard to come across and you may only be able to imagine what help they may benefit from.
If your music is being made in Sydney however, you needn't imagine. You'll have seen them play at Jazzgroove, you'll have seen them grow up on that stage, their music getting deeper and heavier. They'll be at the bar next to you, they'll be at other gigs you go to.
Jazzgroove is keeping an eye out for the jazz musicians of Sydney town, because we adore their music like you do. We're interested in their long term. How can we keep these cats inspired and committed? How can we help to have that music fatten and become more and more itself, more and more us?
We're musicians too. We know it's hard. We know the music for its intrinsic value. We love it no matter the cache of cool or otherwise.
Most Tuesdays of the year Jazzgroove invites two bands to strut their stuff. We promote the gig, pay them a fee, and record their work for posterity. We have the Summer Fest, JARA, JG Records, this year a monthly jam at the Gaelic. We're always thinking of how we can do more.
You can help too. Make a donation. Attend our shows. Become a member of the Jazzgroove Association. Volunteer. Offer your skills. We'll thank you.
The musicians will thank you.
There'll more and better local music that you are sure to adore.
