Will they influence an improvised conversation between friends? Come and find out.
June 30
10pm Mandala
Geoff Hughes - guitar
Ronny Ferella - drums

An improvising trio, Mandala are keenly interested in the point where improvisation and composition intersect. Like a dog with a bone, mandala create and maintain an intensity in their search for the reason behind the sound
8:30pm Exposed Bone
Jeremy Borthwick - bone
Aaron Flower - guitar
Brendan Clarke - bass
James Hauptmann - drums

Laced with weighty potent passages of unashamed rock and funk, this trombone and guitar-led recording exposes the groove and grunge sound of the younger Sydney jazz set. The wailing and growling trombone of Jeremy Borthwick also shows piston-like agility especially on the Indian and African flavoured pieces along with ferocious guitar work from Ben Hauptmann. There's also the rare taste of Brendan Clarke on electric bass utilising synthesised effects.
