“The Neverever Tour”
This national tour celebrates MFO’s fifth year. Led by composer/conductor Mace Francis, this Perth based 14-piece jazz orchestra will show off some of Perth most exciting young musicians. All original music composed by Mace and other members of the ensemble.
"These layered compositions and scoring convey colour, atmosphere and movement far more effectively and with greater interest than the stock standard arrangements often heard from big bands."
John McBeath - The Weekend Australian

Five years on from their last Jazzgroove outing, much has happened - the debut album released by US label Ipecac in 2006, touring with labelmates Peeping Tom, and then sophomore effort 'Transylvania' in 2008. Now with third album in sight, the band is raring to unleash some new material on unsuspecting listeners.
"This is a soundscape to rattle the bones of the dead"
- Pedro Manoy, Drum Media

Showa 44 8:30pm - Kim Lawson Trio

Kim Lawson - sax
Steve Hunter - bass
James Hauptmann - drums
"When it's really happening you can sit back and listen to musical friends talk to each other through sound. And that's what you can hear when you listen to the Kim Lawson trio. It's a form of expression which remains so valuable as the world continues to package and market away. You can't plan for building trust, friendship, the taking of collective risks. You can only do it and commit to keep on doing it. Like these guys." - Matt McMahon

Tuesday 20th July (Venue 505)
Tina Harrod 10pm - Tina Harrod

Tina Harrod - voice
Matt McMahon - piano
Hamish Stuart - drums
John Zwartz - bass
One of Australia’s great original singers returns with her fantastic band. Tina will sing selections from her album “Temporary People” and others. A sublime night of music.

Roil 8:30pm - Roil

Chris Abrahams – piano
Mike Majkowski – bass
James Waples – drums
Formed in 2007, this trio brings together three distinct voices in Australian jazz and improvised music. There is a controlled elegance to Roil’s music – not that this precludes the energetic. The music has an eddying quality that moves between group utterance and multi-stranded counterpoint, a weaving of textures that coagulate to form unified phrases before dispersing once more into the churning invention.

Tuesday 27th July (Venue 505)
Marcello Maio 10pm - The Marcello Maio Trio

Marcello Maio - piano,accordion
Alex Boneham - double bass
James ‘Pug’ Waples - drums
The Marcello Maio Trio has been performing around Sydney’s Jazz scene for the last year. Even though they are a newly formed group they have a large repertoire that draws upon Marcello’s growing stack of original material along with songs from the Great American Songbook and songs from Brazil, Italy, France and Cuba. The trio uses these world music elements to colour the improvisations. They are a regular at the loft venue 505, Bohemian Groove at Jazzgroove and with a SIMA Sound Lounge performance on the way.

Tim Bruer 8:30pm - Tim Bruer Quartet

Tim Bruer – piano
Sean Coffin – tenor sax
Brett Hirst – double bass
James Waples - drums
“Talented pianist/composer Bruer acknowledges influences from Coltrane, Jarrett and Scofield on this multi-faceted recording. The quartet is entirely sympathetic to the contemporary style and the soloing is exciting at every turn.” - Ron Spain, Australian JazzScene August 2007
